Securing my backpack when traveling

Thought I would share about how I am securing my backpack from theft during this India trip. (And likely for future big backpacking trips too.)

Rain cover on the left, my 50litre backpack inside this Ikea bag in the middle, and a superimposed zipped up IKEA bag with lock on the right. (the red arrow points to the lock.)

When getting around, even if it is not raining, I would cover my backpack with the rain cover. I would think that thieves wouldn’t know what to steal if they cannot see the exact items to steal, since it is covered by the rain cover.

Recently in Taiwan, I found this IKEA bag, which I thought would be useful to secure my backpack from theft as well.

The IKEA bag sold in Taiwan for NT99 (about S$4)

This IKEA bag has double zips to lock up the whole backpack inside. And there are even straps to backpack the whole IKEA bag. It is stated that the IKEA bag can hold up to 76litres.

When I leave my hotel room, I would then lock up my whole backpack into the IKEA bag, just for an added precaution.

I couldn’t find it on the online Singapore IKEA website, so I think it is not sold in Singapore.

Hope the above helps in your own backpacking trips.
