After the tiring hike up Mt Nokogiri and to side entrance of Nihonji Temple, I was looking forward to exploring the temple ground of Nihonji Temple. I assumed that the exploration of the various Buddhist statues would be generally level, not much ups nor downs, I was wrong.

The various Buddhist statues of Nihonji are all around the mountain. So there were lots and lots of climbing upstairs as well as lots and lots of going downstairs. I did not explore every corner of Nihonji. Explored where I could cover as much as possible, within a loop, ending off at the exit where the ropeway is, to ride down the mountain.

Again, I assumed wrongly. I assumed that the ropeway was just directly outside the exit of the temple grounds. It was NOT SO.  You still had to hike UP to the ropeway, from the exit of the temple.

I think I climbed Mt Nokogiri twice after exploring Nihonji and going to the ropeway.

Enjoy the pictures and sights of Nihonji Temple.

Called “depths of hell” as it is sheer cliffs at the edge. I didn’t dare go to the edge.
Supposed to be the largest stone Buddha in Japan.
