2018 Dec Australia Road Trip part 1: 9Dec-11Dec

This is going to be my diary entries during my road trip. Hoping to capture some memories in writing and pictures via this blog. So, that means that this post would get kind of boring. Have done a quick summary if you want a overview of events. If you want the costs of my trip, you can go to https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UOCBBykZ45unQRYMfjVcdLgO3eaQMwi1dYCq3JhXWSk

My bags for this trip. Never had to bring so much things for a trip. I usually travel with only the small blue bag on the right.

Total weight.

Summary of events:

9Dec – Drove 8.5 hours from Canberra to St Kilda, Melbourne. Met Hazirah for lunch. Had Korean BBQ dinner with Bryan.

10Dec – Explored St Kilda, Melbourne. Walked to meet Nelson for dinner.

11Dec – Started driving early. Went along The Great Ocean Road. Then decided to head to Naracoorte Caves campground for the night.

Entry for 9Dec: Canberra – Melbourne

Woke up at 5:15am and started off on my journey at 5:30am. Stopped 3 times for breakfast, breaks and rest.

Arrived at the outskirts of Melbourne at about 12:30pm and was expecting to reach my hostel at about 1pm plus. The traffic in Melbourne was horrendous with lots of traffic lights. Took me about 1.5hours to reach my hostel in St Kilda. Checked into my hostel at about 2pm.

Rushed off to meet Hazirah at her place. She prepared lunch for me. Had a great catch up session with her. Then headed to the city, to meet Bryan for dinner, Korean BBQ. Chatted till 9pm before going back to the hostel.

Entry for 10Dec: St Kilda, Melbourne

Made instant pasta for breakfast. Kept the remaining pasta for lunch. Explored St Kilda and its beach.

This was in a mall in St Kilda. It kinda represents St Kilda.

St Kilda’s beach.

Luna Park entrance, St Kilda.

Came back to the hostel for my pasta lunch. Took a nap before going out to grab a bite: meat and mushroom pie with an apple pie.

Walked to Melbourne Parkview hotel to meet Nelson, who is here for a business trip.

This building looks so beautiful and intriguing.

Had dinner with Nelson before we walked back to St Kilda for a cake and coffee.

Entry for 11Dec: Melbourne – The Great Ocean Road – Naracoorte Caves

Started driving early from about 6am to beat the Melbourne traffic. However, there is still so much traffic at 6am.

Headed towards The Great Ocean Road, which was a mistake. I should have just skipped the The Great Ocean Road. Firstly, I have done it before. Secondly, there are views of the ocean for only about 20% of the route. I could have saved lots of time by driving straight to South Australia.

Breakfast with a view.

Views along The Great Ocean Road.

South Australia has these beautiful forests for their forestry industry.

Had decided to spend the night at the campgrounds at Naracoorte Caves. 2 years ago, I camped there as well, and enjoyed the view of wallabies coming out to graze at dusk and dawn.

My home for the night.

Inside my home.

How to travel light? Wash your clothes.

Can you see the wallabies in front of my car?
